It's roughly been about 5 weeks since my last post. Rest assured that I have not fallen off of the face of the earth. I've actually kept myself EXTREMEly busy during my blogging absence. "What have you been up to?" Why thank you for asking, here are a few of the shenanigans i've gotten myself into through the eyes of my iPhone:

Took a nutty lil' trip to the Bay

Drank cocktails...i mean shots, from a rookie bartender

Began the 2010-11 tailgating season with a bang

Partook in SD Restuarant week at Blue Point Coastal Cuisine & Roy's La Jolla

Wet my Willie at Wet Willie's aka Visions

Transformed the monster into a princess again

Played some records at my weekly/bi-weekly residencies

Re-discovered crack in a cup aka Cafe Sua Da aka Vietnamese Iced Coffe, then discovered that I can develop an immunity to even the strongest caffiene drinks (whomp whomp)

Battled the homies from Armory at Generations U-31

Won a battle against the homies from Armory at Generations U-31

Played more records at my weekly residence at the Office, got BOO'ed one week (lame)

Recieved inspiration from Vegas Fam DJ EarWaxxx (amazing)

So you may be asking yourself, why the long hiatus from blogging? Well those of you that follow me on twitter (@DJedROC) will know the answer to that one.....

About 60,000 pages that needed to be sorted, recyled, scanned, and filed. Exciting work here folks.

Slightly Dangerous 2010 via iPhone4

Got a chance to get away this past weekend for a mostly relaxing, with a lil peppering of RAGING partyin', in Sin City for Slightly Dangerous 2010. It was definitely a good time with good folks. I actually miss being there, but my wallet is sure glad to be home. So I didn't take many pictures, probably because I didn't bring an actual camera, so here is what I had taken with my phone. Stay tuned for more pictures of the trip when I get them from other peoples cameras.

Had to get the party going, so we had a little pre-flight warm-up. Henny Redbull.

Thanks to Nancee's hookup, we got ourselves the VIP treatment. VIP check-in to the Venetian and access to the VIP lounge. HOLLA!

After lounging in the VIP area for a minute, we made our way up to our suite. The room was HUGE! Although it did look like we were missing furniture. I felt there should've been a couch or something where TK is standing.

No parties were being thrown the first night, so we made our way down to the casino floor to TRY and win money.

Our roll dogs called it a night early, so Hannah and myself gambled till about 4am and grabbed 4th meal at Grand Lux. mmm chicken parm nomz

The next morning we woke up to this beautiful view. It looked nice out, but if your definition of nice is 101 degrees, then you probably used to live on the sun.

Can someone say Diva? Someone got pampered this trip... ahem ahem Hannah.

2nd attempt at TRYING to win money. Judging by everyones facial expressions, how do you think we did?

Losing money = more drinking to cheer you up.

The rest of the fam showed up later that evening, we played, drank, and bullshitted. Sorry no pics.

The next day a few of us went to get more VIP treatment. Virus x Boo x Nay Nay x Kanye Asada.

Free sandwiches, cheese, and crackers? Don't mind if I do.

And complimentary drinks? Don't mind if I do.

The host in the VIP lounge was RAD! He showed us a few magic tricks.

We didn't eat much in the VIP lounge because we were saving room for more Fat Tuesday's. We took a trip over to Ceasars to grab some frozen libations, and bullshitted around the Forum Shops. On the way back to the Venetian, Brandon and myself got hungry. We tend to eat with our eyes and not our stomachs. We probably only ate a quarter of all this food.

The rest of this Saturday was pretty chill. Gambled, slept, drank more, then attempted to go out. I'll leave it at "attempted". I did somehow make my way to the Slightly Dangerous suite at the Aria. It was nuts, and definitely fun. I felt like I was in a movie. and the suite was AMAZING!

Sunday, the fam left back home and we were back to the original 4. We really wanted a buffet, and I've heard about how great the M Buffet is, so we took a taxi down there. $40 taxi ride!?!? This place better be worth it.

It was definitely one of the best buffets i've been to. Free beer and wine! Try the meatballs and the chicken florentine. yumz.

Food coma? or excitement from listening to Hannah explain the difference between ice cream and gelatos? If you guessed option 2, you're right!! *yawn*

Christian had to take off Sunday night, so I was left to party with these two lovely ladies. LML

We met up with the Slightly Dangerous crew at Lavo in the Palazzo. Hannah and myself were super excited to hear DJ Vice spin. Judging by the crowd, we weren't the only ones.

Only a fraction of the Slightly Dangerous ladies were left for the Sunday night party. Imagine 10 times more ladies in this booth... that's what you missed out on.

We raged till about 3am before we called it a night. GREAT GREAT night. Lots of drinks, and lots of maddness. Oh and BTW, DJ Vice did not let us down. He's SICK!

After peeling ourselves outta bed at about noon the next day, we made our way over to Planet Hollywood for lunch at Planet Dailies.

After lunch we stopped at Earl of Sandwich to grab food to ship out to SF for Rayzaruckus, Noelle in SD, and Rygar in England.

Do-it-Yourself repairs in Vegas. Not tacky at all.

Upon its release, the Canon PowerShot S90 effectively stole he limelight from Canon’s top-of-the-line compact G-series line of cameras. Establishing itself as a powerhouse offering in a small package, a new update has been revealed. The compact camera boasts further enhancements of the original S90 including re-developing the body for an even smaller footprint. We needed to prep for our trip to Vegas this weekend for Slightly Dangerous and to celebrate Big Gee's 90th birthday. So the fam took a trip to costco to stock up on the essentials....LIQUOR! We all know that drinks are not cheap in Vegas, it's highway robbery!

Before getting our bulk-shopping on, we grabbed some inexpensive yet yummy grub at the food court. Everyone has been hyping up the Carne Asada bake, so I had to get it. It's really kinda ehh. It needs like hot sauce or something.

I don't know how I feel about this packaging. I can't bring myself to buy a throw that depicts the animal who lost all of it's coat for me. Such a brave lil sheep.

After stocking up on gallons of alcohol, we took a trip over to Barona to warm up our gaming skills.

This is my favorite slot at Barona, Sex in the City. Although on this particular night, Carrie wasn't been so nice. I lost $60 playing =( But I invested in Klev at the War table and he won me $100! So I went home up $40. Not amazing, but I got back the money I spent on liquor at Costco. Speaking of which, are you aware that you don't need a Costco membership card when you buy ONLY liquor? Now you know, go get drunk.

This is what I look forward to at Barona. Mix the Sprite and Pink Lemonade, you can thank me later.

Since my iPhone 4 is my main camera that I use, especially for blogging (hence the not so fantastic quality at times, although the iPhone 4 does take some rad ass pictures), imma have to grab me a few of these.

Today we come across Jelly Lens, a new series of mini lenses, especially made for the camera of your mobile phone. With the quality of images of mobile phone cameras constantly increasing, why not add a set of lenses to it as well. The line-up includes fish eye lenses, wide angle lenses, as well as many special effect lenses and color filters. You can get them now here.

Transworld Skate & Create 2010

I'm excited to see what the finished product will look like.

Transworld Skateboarding has put forth a challenge to the skate community to shoot, direct, and produce the most creative skate video. Each team is comprised of four professional skaters and two amateurs. Each team is then given a director, and a warehouse of obstacles to work with. The idea is that all teams use the same warehouse, and same obstacles, and it is up to them to come up with the most creative piece in nine days. The winner gets the cover of the magazine and will have a spot reserved in Skate & Create 2011.

In this video submission from team adidas, Mark Gonzales, Dennis Busentiz, Benny Fairfax, Nestor Judkins, Lem Villemin, Jake Donnelly, all throw down some amazing skateboarding in some extremely creative set-ups. The director Matt Irving used creative lighting and camera angles to create a truly artistic representation of the sport.

Office Saturdays [8/14/10]

Saturday: after lunch at souplantation, the rest of the day was spent pretty much doing nothing with the fellas at the pad till dinner. Mark Marcelo came through to session, and my bro got in a lil session time in the studio as well. Bin and Julz cruised through and the three of us smoked some sheesh and watched some pre-season football. TK also made an appearance, handled some business, and got in a lil nap while we watched the Chargers/Bears pre-season game online because of the stupid televised blackout (wack).

After a laid back afternoon, it was time to get to work. But, first things first...Dinner. Tonight we hit Katsu downtown.

Ehhh, not impressed. Almost all the features done on this bulky unit and cluttered interface can be accomplished with the right equipment using Serato. Nice try Traktor.

This is definitely much more impressive, and i'm not just saying that because I personally own one of these.

Sure the Traktor video is highlighting a completely different use compared to the Vestax video. If someone posts a video of the S4 using all of it's features in a turntabilist fashion, then.... i'd still like the VCI better. HA! Bottom line: portability.

Another Converse collaboration is in the pipeline as Cody Hudson puts his creative touches on the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star High. The American artist joins Parra as a recent collaborator, with his design featuring a red leather upper with embossing on the side and tongue. Also seen is a blue toecap which creates a strong contrast in the aesthetic. A release is not yet available but should come in the next few weeks.

Thursday the Fam and I tried to hit up TNT at MCASD, but alas it was EXTREMELY crowded because everyone wanted to see the Viva La Revolucion exhibit and catch the band Waves. We first hit El Dorado for happy hour, then made our way down to Downtown's new hot spot, Analog.

It's amazing what television can do for people, places, and things. Head over to Lucha Libre in Mission Hills to see how Man vs. Food affected this local eatery. Post television exposure = long lines, long waits, and hungry people. Food is still delicious though. Here's a tip: phone in your order for pick-up to avoid long waits. You can thank me later, with a Surfin' California burrito. Gracias.

A group of professionals posed the question, “What does love mean?” to a group of 4 - 8 year-olds. The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone had expected:

Love is that first feeling you feel before all the bad stuff gets in the way.

When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth.

Love is when someone hurts you. And you get so mad but you don’t yell at them because you know it would hurt their feelings.

Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

When you tell someone something bad about yourself and you’re scared they won’t love you anymore. But then you get surprised because not only do they still love you, they love you even more.

Sometimes I think the older we get, the blinder we get. Children seem to have a better grasp at what love is than adults.

Sunday for brunch some of the Boom Tarat Bloods went to grab some Dim Sum at Emerald. I've only been Dim Sum'ed a couple of times. I didn't know what to order so I left those decisions up to eveyone else and I just ate whatever was in front of me.

As soon as we were seated, we were immediately swarmed by an army of food carts. It was quite overwhelming for an inexperienced Dim Sum'er like myself. So many choices, so many things that I didn't know what the hell was inside, and so many thick accented hard to understand employees....it was FUN! haha

I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to things that are supposedly "edible". I gotta try everything at least once in my life. This adventure introduced me to chicken feet. Of course Big Gee, being the Pinoy Uncle that he is, ordered the chicken feet. I didn't know how to attack it. Big Gee's advice: "just go for it, one digit at a time, don't choke on the bones, there's alot". Good advice if you ask me. Initially I was a little weirded out, and I kept picturing a chicken walking around. But once I got past that initial weirdness, the feet were actually pretty damn good. I wonder if they sell a boneless version?

Double Duty

Our double duty night on Saturday at Confidential and The Office went off without a hitch. Thanks to Flex for spinnin' at Gian for being our chauffeur. Be prepared for more of these "we're dj'ing all over town in one night" in the near future.

Started off the night at El Dorado with a couple Gold Rushes to get me warmed up for the busy night.

Then it was off to Confidential to do the opening set. Who ever DJ'ed at Confidential prior to Saturday, learn how to clean up your damn mess! Thanks for leaving everything unplugged and all over the place, cunt.

At about 11-ish, Julz showed up to Confidential and I was whisked away to the Office where Flex had the crowd going with the old school party rockers. It was nuts at the Office (as was Confidential), musty and hot as ballz as usual. But good good times indeed.

Since everyone was split between two venues, we all ended up eating in a whole bunch of different spots for 4th meal. Nipster, Julz, and myself ended up at Denny's.

Noah's 1st Cut

Saturday I put in a little babysitting work to help Noelle while she got her hair did. I'd never say no to a chance to chill with my lil buddy Noah, and he was also getting a fresh new cut for the 1st time! So it was kinda fun to be there for that milestone in his life.

For those of you that guessed "Foot", you probably don't share the same thinking processes I do [wink].... Went out to Bluefoot in North Park to watch and support Julz, Huge Euge, and Flo. Even though this bar is in my neighborhood, and I pass it every day commuting to work, this night actually marked the first time I ever set foot inside. It is a lot bigger than I thought. It's a pretty chill spot, could use a lil work on the sound (although their sound is still better than a certain "dive" that I would rather NEVER speak of), and the patrons have a taste in music that completely threw me off guard.

Started the night off with a lil' dinner at Burger Lounge in Lil Italy with Big Gee, What the Josiez, Auntie Judy, Kleve-land, and Juli-anne. The turkey burger recommended by What the Josiez was delicious. She doesn't swear "by" it, she swears "at" it. "Damn you burger! you're so F*CKIN' GOOD!"

So yesterday's #HannieHumpDay we decided not to have a home cooked tasty meal by Chef Hannah since she had to leave early for dance rehearsal. Instead, we asked Brand-EZ to scoop up some Pat & Oscars since his mom is a District Manager for the restaurant. We didn't think his moms was gonna come thru, so Hannah decided to just pick some up herself. She picks up a hefty meal from Oscars, and a couple hours later, Brand-EZ shows up with twice as much food from the same place.

So, we ended up with: 2 large pizzas, 1 medium pizza, 4 tubs of pasta, 2 bags of potato wedges, 3 trays of chicken wings, 1 HUGE greek salad, 1 medium greek salad, and (no joke) about 100 breadsticks!!!!

All that food for a total of 10 people.

Needless to say, we got HELLA leftovers. Come by, help me eat it.

The urban setting and its corresponding lifestyle are major sources of inspiration in contemporary culture. This is an historic revolution in visual culture, in which the codes and icons of the everyday—found on the streets in graffiti, signage, waste, tattoos, advertising, and graphic design—have been appropriated and used as an integral part of contemporary art-making. The urban landscape inspires and serves as both a platform for innovation and a vehicle for expression for many artists. The city itself, its buildings, vehicles, people, and advertisements, are not only the surface where the art is applied. The city fuels the practice.

A multifaceted exhibition that explores the dialogue between artists and the urban landscape, Viva la Revolución: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape features works both in the Museum’s galleries as well as at public sites throughout downtown San Diego.

This past weekend we celebrated the Dirty 30 of Mindz Alike's self-proclaimed manager, mr Jay-G. My man is always known for stuntin' and looking mad fly for his birthday parties. This year, he went formal!

I have no clue who these breezies are, but they asked me to take their picture. What makes it weirder is that I was taking pictures with my iPhone. Weird.

Had dinner at the Riviera Supper Club in La Mesa for Jay's birthday. If you've ever been to the Turf Club in Golden Hills, or the Strip Club in Downtown, it's pretty much the same thing... you grill your own meat. That's me in the bottom left corner, bone-in ribeye. mmmm, my meat is tasty (pause)

Finally got to meet Vince & Hannah's latest creation, Mitchell!

Looks like a lil' ol' man! This guy is livin the life, sleep > eat > poop > repeat.

After dinner, Julz and myself had to go DJ at Confidential for the Saw 7 (there's 7 of those damn movies?!?!) party hosted by Lionsgate. The cast and crew were there earlier in the night, and were SUPPOSED to return to party, buuttt, well if you came out then you know how the night went.

So after my set we took a lil trip to peep out the new gaslamp spot, Analog. It's a pretty dope spot, and their sign doesn't lie, they pour STRONG DRINKS! They have a large selection of tall cans, which includes OE, PBR, and....ST. IDES!!!! I haven't had one of those since high school.

This is what I drank. Some sort of Mai Tai what-cha-ma-call-it. It was pretty damn potent!

Brain Wreck x Nike x Keep a Breast event at Blends SD, followed by the after party at El Dorado.

Made a quick pit stop at Neighborhood for happy hour. 2-for-1 local beers. Can't beat that! Got down with a couple Alesmith Speedway Stouts. Nomz

I didn't grab any grub at Neighborhood because I was informed there was a food truck outside of Blends. Being that I love mobile food, I decided to check it out. The truck was a farm fresh, organic themed truck. Edwin recommended the Grass Fed Burger, and let me tell you, it was the best burger i've had, maybe ever! Peep them out, Miho GastroTruck. Try the burger, you won't be disappointed.

After the in-store event, there was an after party at El Dorado featuring DJ's Jay Dread, Profile, Huge Euge, Mark Marcelo, and Iron Mike. I didn't take any pictures at the event, check out the Blends Blog for coverage.

Of course every outing is followed by a 4th meal. We hit up Saigon Hillcrest for some yummy Pho and Curry.

Farewell Twitter Tuesday

This past Tuesday marked the end of Twitter Tuesday's at Rawmana Sushi Lounge inside of Seau's Restaurant. It was a good run with a lot of memorable moments. Thanks to Julz and Ricochet for spinnin' the tunes, and to Kirin for making delicious rolled eats. You can still order a Victory Roll, if you haven't tried it...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?

Julz also had his birthday dinner on this night. Of course, in true Julz fashion, he got completely s#!t faced, ended up throwing chairs, and upsetting his older brother who in turn scared all of his friends. Good times.

World Famous Friends

I miss my old co-workers from the "World Famous" San Diego Zoo. We used to routinely frequent Lei Lounge on Tuesdays for happy hour, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got a text to meet up at Lei Lounge just like old times.

My libation of choice, Chinese Cosmo.

Something crusted/glazed salmon with some fancy named mushy rice.

Not Too Shabu

Hit up the Shabu Shabu House on Convoy for some good eats. It's like 3 meals in itself. Very delicious, and comes highly recommended from yours truly =)

First your start off with a plate full of raw stuff (meat, veggies, tofu, etc.)

Toss errthang into a pot of boiling broth.

Cook the meat quickly (about 5 seconds for the beef)

Consume cooked meat and veggies with sauces and rice provided.

Finish off remaining broth, veggies, and meat as a bowl of soup with udon. (best part)

AND wah-lah! you have just Shabu-Shabu'ed.

Our server taught us a new drinking game called "Titanic". Basic principle, who ever sinks the shot of sake in a cup of beer must down the glass. Of course Julz and myself had to try it. Peep out Hannie's Blog for our demonstration video.

Friday night was a busy one for me. I had three functions to attend in the span of 2 hours. The peeps were having a 1st of many summer BBQ's over at Union Square, there was a 10 year memorial service for my dear dear friend/sister Jeannifer Montajes (Rest in Peace), and I had to be at work at Onyx/Thin by 9pm. Good thing I had Annie Lou's yummy and very potent sangria to relieve the stress from scurrying around town.

From Union Square, (downtown SD), I took a trip down south to Chula Vista to pay my respects to my eternal friend Jeannifer Montajes (1985-2000). I miss you and I love you. Til we meet again =)

My Inaanak (God Daughter) J.J. aka Josephine Jeannifer, who was born after Jeanny passed away, sang a song that Jeanny was known to sing all the time. Brought tears to my eyes, but they were happy tears, because I could see Jeanny in her. What a moment.

Ok ok I know, Elly Jackson (lead singer of La Roux) is not a lil' boy. haha.

Last thursday I went with the fam over to the ultra fancy (sarcasm) 4th&B to check out the La Roux concert. I don't know too many of their songs, but I knew enough to enjoy the show. It was actually quite entertaining. Elly Jackson has the ILLEST combover (reminiscent of Ed Grimley), and a wicked two-step. Other than it being hot as BALLZ and having a stank ass pony tail in my face, it was definitely good times with good folks.

Resurrection

Back by popular demand (well not really)….back due to an overwhelming motivational pep talk from a highly persuading person, I’ve decided to resurrect my lil’ ol’ blog. My last post up on here was about 6 months ago in November, but in actuality, I haven’t really maintained this bad boy consistently with posts containing some sort of thought or substance since early August of 2009. A lot has happened in my year long blogging hiatus. Tried new things, ended new things, my DJ career has soared to new heights taking me places I would’ve never thought imaginable, moved out to North Park with my bro-ham, FINALLY found a new job (props to G.Lover for the hook), grown my network exponentially, made a lot of new acquaintances, grown close to lots of good people whom I am EXTREMELY thankful for, developed a lil’ fam that is practically inseparable, and found happiness where I least expected it. As of today, as I type this, I’m living the good life (minus all the cool expensive materialistic things, but I do gots some toys). Loving my life, loving my peoples, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. So here you go, delve into my life again, and if you take anything away from what I post, I hope it is the peace, love, and happiness that I’ve been experiencing from all the good people I surround myself with. 143

Instead of deleting everything and starting fresh, I decided to leave all the old posts for those of you that are new to my blog and wanna see what shenanigans I got into before, but do check out the new. All of July 2010 consists of select highlights that have gone down within the last month or so. Enjoy.

Took a trip up to LA LA Land for a lil' shopping, and A LOT of eating. Good times with the BOOM TARATS (that's our new set created by OG's BigGee and myself. LOL)

Started the day off at the Hellz Sample Sale at the Hellz Offices in Downtown LA. Thanks Angie, Jino, and Brittnay for the VIP treatment. And special special thanks to Angie for all the help ;)

After the Hellz sale, which was our only concrete plans, our day consisted of, "where do you wanna go now?". We flew by the seat of our pants, drove around LA to check out different shops, annnndddd ATE. Food this day consisted of Porto's cheese rolls and potato balls, LA Dirty Dogs, Mario's Peruvian, dessert at MILK, and food truck hunting.

Went to the Fair a few times this year, ate a butt-load of food, and of course had my DELICIOUS Pizza Bread everytime. I didn't take pictures each time I went, but here's a few flicks from the 5&A Dime fam trip and the always enjoyable Beer Fest.

I'm pretty selective with my app purchases for my iPhone. I've been using the same $75 Apple credit/gift card for the past two years and I still have about $40 left! I know i'm a lil' late on the Hipstamatic app, but, in my opinion, this is the best app EVER! If you enjoy taking pictures of course. I own two high quality/expensive cameras (Canon G10 & Nikon D80), and i'd much rather be taking pictures with this $1.99 app.
